UK insurance companies, never usually shy of making a fast buck from the hard-hit motorist have finally backed down over the fitting of winter tyres. Reports circulated last year suggesting some drivers had been hit by premium increases of up to 20 per cent for the ‘modification’ despite the enhanced safety factor. Now several of Britain’s insurers have confirmed they will not charge any premium increase (obviously due to the usual weasel terms and conditions).
